"We are thrilled to deliver the same high-quality Pinkberry experience outside of our stores for catering events," says Ron Graves, Pinkberry CEO. "We have found that people are overwhelmingly surprised that they can provide the Pinkberry experience to enhance their special event. We have catered everything from unique, high-profile celebrations to casual dinner parties. Interest has continued to grow as the word of mouth has spread."

Pinkberry Catering offers drop-off service or full service depending on the needs of the special occasion. With Pinkberry Catering, users can customize their order by choosing from a variety of yogurt flavors and sizes. They can create their own topping bar at their event by selecting from more than 30 premium toppings, including daily hand-cut Grade-A fresh fruit, organic gummy bears with no high fructose corn syrup, all natural honey, or Belgian milk chocolate shavings.

07 09 10  |  Epicurious Frozen Yogurt Taste Test

We sampled 27 varieties of frozen yogurt and found 3 to be the cream of the crop.

With the explosion of high-end frozen yogurt stores in every city and the continual rollout of frozen yogurt–type desserts made with nondairy ingredients, we decided it was high time to roll up our sleeves, grab some spoons, and start tasting to decide which frozen yogurt really is the best. No sooner did we embark on our research than we realized this was going to be as complicated as the rules for the World Cup: There are many variations on the market, including low-fat; low-cal (although frozen yogurt is already generally much lower in fat and calories than ice cream); nondairy, from every imaginable source (hemp frozen dessert, anyone?), for those with a dairy, soy, or gluten allergy or intolerance; supermarket products vs. yogurt sold at chain eateries; and a multitude of flavors and degrees of tanginess. We also kept an eye on brands that call themselves frozen yogurt but lack active yogurt cultures or use cream instead of milk—those being key differentiators between frozen yogurt and ice cream.

We developed a game plan and conducted three taste tests to figure out which brands are truly the "crème de la yogurt": We tested 6 fat-free or low-fat brands, then separately evaluated 13 nondairy or low-lactose frozen yogurt alternatives. Lastly, we sampled 8 soft-serve (or harder) frozen yogurts in the popular tart flavor widely sold at fro yo shops; 2 are available at supermarkets, and the others are sold at yogurt chains. Phew. Read on for the results.

Best Low-Fat or Nonfat Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

Häagen-Dazs Low-Fat Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
($5.29 per pint)

Pros: This option delivered from start to finish. Not only did it look luscious and creamy, but it lacked the soft, spongy consistency of many of its competitors. One judge said it best: "Is this really frozen yogurt? Fooled me! Tastes like full-fat ice cream."

Cons: More caloric than the others, at 200 calories for a 1/2-cup serving. For dieters, another option is the runner-up, 140-calorie Julie's Organic Vanilla Bean.

Best Nondairy Vanilla Frozen Dessert

Tofutti Vanilla Premium Frozen Dessert
($4.99 per pint)

Pros: Judges favored this pick for its similarities to cow's-milk ice cream. "This one is creamy and smooth," proclaimed one judge. "Tastes like cake batter," said another.

Cons: Not ideal for people who are sensitive to gluten (for more on this, see Tofutti's FAQs); however, Good Karma Organic Rice Divine Very Vanilla is a great alternative.

Best Tart Frozen Yogurt

Pinkberry Original Frozen Yogurt
($3.43 for a small serving without toppings)

Pros: Not only is this option only 100 calories per 1/2-cup serving and nonfat, but it is very well balanced—not too sweet, not too sour. "I think I might have just found a replacement for my Greek yogurt addiction!" stated one judge.

Cons: Cannot be purchased at your supermarket. If there is no Pinkberry outlet near you, Häagen-Dazs Tart Natural is a good second in the tart category and is readily available in stores.

The Other Contenders: The Bottom Three

Edy's Slow Churned Rich & Creamy Vanilla Yogurt Blend may contain live and active cultures, but it was considered way too sweet by all the judges, with little body. Tasters didn't need to be told that Tempt Vanilla Bean is made from hemp milk— they could tell. One judge said it tasted herbal, and all agreed that it did not melt as it should. Trader Joe's Plain Nonfat Pleasantly Tart was a mix of citrus and soy flavors. Judges found it to have a gummy consistency.

07 01 10  Pinkberry celebrates new flavor with half-price Happy Hour

Froyo fans might already know that  Pinkberry is planning to announce Monday the introduction of a new summer flavor: watermelon.

Most stores only offer four to six flavors so Pinkberry is making a big to-do over the addition of another new choice. To celebrate the new flavor, Pinkberry stores plan to host a daily Happy Hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting June 25.

During that time, customers will receive 50 percent off any size serving of the new watermelon flavor, which launches in stores June 25 and departs early August.

Now, that’s a short run!

Pinkberry has seven shops in Orange County. Stores are in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Irvine, La Habra, Santa Ana, Fullerton, and Tustin. (addresses)

03 26 10 | The EXPERIENCE that is Pinkberry!

Dear World,

I had the pleasure of going to a Sneak Peak/Grand Opening of one of the newest frozen yogurt spots to hit Arlington, Texas: Pinkberry. I've heard a lot about Pinkberry. It's a celebrity hotspot in California...there's also a couple of locations in Dallas. So I was super excited to hear about one opening right down the street from my house.

When I arrived, there was already a line outside of the door. I wasn't too far from the front though, so I didn't mind the line at all. Plus they had a DJ there who was jamming. To my surprise, as we stood in line, they handed out samples of all of their frozen yogurt. So I got to taste everything before I even got inside the store. I can give you a run-down of each of their flavors:

  • Original - Just like it sounds, it's pretty much the base flavor for each of the other yogurts. Nothing spectacular; just a nice, kind of tart frozen yogurt.
  • Chocolate - Surprisingly, this was NOT my favorite. I wasn't chocolately tasting enough for me. It was very good, just a little on the light side with the cocoa flavoring.
  • Coconut - Again, lightly flavored and tasted just like coconut. It wasn't my favorite because I don't like coconut in the first place.
  • Pomegranate - This had a nice berry flavor to it. Had a sweetness that complemented the tartness very nicely. I was leaning towards this as my favorite, but then I tasted...
  • Mango - OH. MY. GOSH. THIS. It's a seasonal flavor, so I'm afraid it won't always be available, but it's HEAVENLY. I would say, if it's your first time going, go with Mango. You WON'T be disappointed. It was refreshing, light, just the perfect summer flavor.
Once I got inside, I definitely picked the mango yogurt. You have your choice of 3 toppings. They have fruit like strawberries, pineapples and kiwi...dry toppings like coconut shavings, granola pieces and even Fruity Pebbles. I went with the pineapple, chocolate chips and shaved chocolate pieces (yes, I'm a chocolate freak.) The pineapple and the shaved chocolate went well with it. The chocolate chips were a little heavy on the their flavor so the better accompaniment would be something like the original flavor or maybe even the coconut.
All in all, I highly recommend it. The atmosphere and decor is nice and fresh, with glazed river rock flooring, lots of bright, summery colors and sophisticated lighting. They even had a few chairs outside--perfect for the warm summer nights to come. So next time you have a craving for some ice cream, head over to Pinkberry and get your "fro yo" on. You'll be glad you did.
Love, Toni
