09 08 09 | Pinkberry Debuts on Zagat

Pinkberry Debuts on Zagat's Rankings as Leading Frozen Yogurt in the Smoothie/Frozen Yogurt Category

Pinkberry was recently recognized by Zagat for its superior product, healthy options and store facilities. Results issued recently from Zagat's Fast Food Survey ranked Pinkberry third in the Smoothie/Frozen Yogurt category, but was the only frozen yogurt brand recognized on the list. Additionally, the brand was ranked number two in Healthy Options and was placed in the top five ranking of best overall facilities nationwide. For all rankings, Pinkberry was recognized within the Quick Refreshment Chain category, which focuses on facilities that serve coffee, frozen yogurt, ice cream and smoothies as the featured offering.

The triple honor marks the first time Pinkberry has appeared in Zagat's Fast Food Survey and is a testament to the leadership position of the brand in the frozen yogurt category. With 6,107 respondents weighing in on 103 chains nationwide, surveyors rated chain restaurants' food, facilities and service on Zagat's signature 30-point scale.

"We're honored that Pinkberry was voted the best frozen yogurt within the smoothie and frozen yogurt category," said Ron Graves, Pinkberry CEO. "To be recognized for our product and store experience is an affirmation that we are creating a special and enduring brand."

Zagat conducts industry surveys all year round to identify the best restaurants in numerous categories, as selected by consumers. Zagat Survey is the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based information and is considered one of the most trusted sources for information on where to eat, drink, stay and play. As with all Zagat surveys, participants in the Fast Food Survey are everyday consumers who have a strong interest in the topics covered.

In addition to receiving Zagat honors, Pinkberry was also recognized for its exceptional efforts in the digital space by social marketing provider Vitrue (www.vitrue.com). Pinkberry was the only frozen yogurt brand on the list and ranked number 19 among Vitrue's Top 25 Social Restaurants, which included industry giants Starbucks, McDonald's and Subway. The recognition comes just two weeks after Pinkberry launched its new Coconut and Passionfruit flavors and Parfait product via a heavy social media marketing campaign.

"We generated a lot of excitement for our new summer fresh flavors and the New Pinkberry parfait using primarily Twitter, Facebook and the Pinkberry Web site," noted Graves. "We relied on our customers to help spread the word via social media, and the results exceeded our expectations. We appreciate the support of our consumers online and the recognition from Vitrue."

09 07 09 | Thirty to Thirty

Because it’s been so hot this past week, I’ve been beating the heat by vacillating between my favorite cold refreshments: boba milk tea, sweet tea, and last but not least, yogurt.

They’ve changed the paradigm. Instead of making their price-points dependent on the number of specific toppings, Pinkberry now prices based on only two criteria: 1) size of order and 2) the desire for toppings. To elaborate, if you order your yogurt with toppings, you can choose as many different toppings you want without altering the price. 2, 4, 6, or 8, it doesn’t matter. This is so much better than the whole “charge-per-topping” debacle.

But unfortunately, Pinkberry is still not self-serve. You do not control your own destiny here. Instead, you are “literally” caged behind the counter as the Yogurtistas (yogurt baristas) put your order together, unilaterally deciding how much of each topping you get. Tyrants! Well…I guess some things don’t change.

Nevertheless, this is still a vast improvement on the old model. It’s probably Pinkberry’s snappy reply to the proliferation of Yogurtlands out there. But who cares. It’s capitalism and I enjoy the competition. (10 cents per oz anybody?) Now the only thing holding me back from a daily Pinkberry original tart with mochi, blueberries, and dark chocolate crisps (these are “bah-ahm”) are the 91, the 605, and the 22 freeways.

Ugh. Why is Pinkberry so far from Cerritos!!!

P.S. If I had Google Adsense I wonder if I’d get a Pinkberry ad on my page. Hmmm??

09 05 09 | Pinkberry

Pinkberry was the only frozen yogurt chain that I knew of before I moved to Manhattan. Any high-end chain that reaches Goshen, NY must be a giant.
Everyone in this city goes bonkers over Pinkberry. The company chose to acknowledge their popularity by adding a “groupie” link on their webpage, http://www.pinkberry.com/. I had always wanted to try Pinkberry. After learning that the company has groupies, I put it at the top of my list.

Location: 170 8th Avenue, Manhattan. There are twelve other locations in Manhattan. Most of the other branches of the chain are located in California, where the brand originated.
Taste: Tart. It is very light and won’t make you feel guilty for indulging. It stays colder than the machines in FIT’s cafe, so it is firmer and less like soup.
Price: $$. $4.84 for a small with toppings. (I got a small original with crumbled Oreo bits on top.)
Flavor Choices: Some variety. Original, Pomegranate, Coconut, and Passionfruit. Pomegranate, Coconut, and Pomegranate are seasonal flavors. The original is available year-round. Parfaits and smoothies are also available.
Topping choices: Lots of ‘em! Kiwi, Captain Crunch cereal, Raspberries, crumbled Oreo bits, blackberries, strawberries, craisins, banana chunks, Hershey Kisses, chocolate shavings, Fruity Pebbles, blueberries, coconut shavings, and additional seasonal fruits.

+ Plenty of flavor and topping choices!
+ Not a heavy yogurt, so you won’t feel guilty or bloated after eating it.
+ Serving sizes are pretty big. Even though it is pricey, you’re paying for a lot.
+ There are a lot of locations. It’s easily accessible to people living in the city.
- It’s pricey.

09 04 09 | What I Think About Pinkberry

As I stumbled across Pinkberry I found that this is a retaurant that allows me to enjoy a treat while still maintaining my choice of Optimal Health.

Let me explain.

When you walk into Pinkberry – you immediately feel a sense of calm – the bright lighting and crisp, clean new age feel.

Welcome to Pinkberry they say. What would you like? Now there is a selection for you but not too many that you are overwhelmed but just enough to satisfy most everyone’s craving within a limited selection and a wide range of toppings that create the perfect treat just for you.

My favorite is coconut. Each time I sit down to enjoy me treat I savor the way the ice cream melts in my mouth – it’s not overloaded with too much flavor – and if you eat it in moderation when you are finished you are left feeling a little happier and satisfied. Not bloated, guilty or heavy that you would normally feel after eating something more along the lines of …let’s say ColdStone.

In fact, as soon as I finish writing this I plan to walk to my freezer and take out that little bag with my nightly treat of Pinkberry and plop down on the couch and endulge in a treat that I feel I have earned while choosing to live the Optimal Life.

Ahhhh… Bliss….

If you haven’t tried it – you must.
